4 Virtues to Keep in Mind When Doing Exercises to Improve Posture
September 22nd, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedStarting a new system of exercises to improve posture can be frustrating. We might expect a lot out of ourselves, especially at the beginning. We want instant results, and when we don’t get them, we feel discouraged.
But if you keep incorporating these virtues into your practice, you will reap many benefits. You can make the exercises more effective, reduce your risk of getting hurt, and feel more contented with your practice. In this article, I will detail four important virtues that will help you deepen your practice. These virtues are usually present in yoga and tai chi, but we’ll make use of them here, too.
1. Patience
The first week or two of a new exercise routine usually give you big results. You’re working new muscles in new ways, so your muscle adapts relatively quickly. But soon you reach your muscle’s capacity to change quickly, and you must slowly and persistently exercise it to see any gains. This can take time. The same works for your posture. You will see big gains at first, but then you must be patient and do the exercises correctly and consistently. Over time, you will notice an improvement in how you hold yourself up. So keep at it.
2. Modesty
Our bodies are precious. Often, we try too hard to push ourselves. We might stretch too hard, or lift a weight we shouldn’t. Often, our injuries are not serious. But sometimes, especially when dealing with the back and tendons, we can do serious damage. Our spine is so important to our lives. It is important to protect it and strengthen it.
You ligaments and tendons can only stretch 4% of their length before they start to get hurt. When you stretch, you should only apply a gentle stretch to your tendons. A good rule of thumb is that when your muscles begin to twitch, that is as far as you should go in the stretch. Your tendons are actually sending a reflex message to your muscles to avoid stretching too far.
3. Awareness
Paying attention to our own bodies is so important, yet we often just zone out and watch TV while we’re at the gym. We could be feeling all sorts of pain from our body, but we aren’t listening. When your trying to improve your posture, you absolutely must focus on your own body. How are you holding yourself? What is tight? What can I relax? By paying attention to our movements, we can do them more correctly, improve our enjoyment, and increase our quality of life.
4. Grace
Try to find the elegance in each movement. Grace is developed slowly over time, but it truly shows in those who have developed it. When you care about how your body moves and occupies space, it is a deep care for your own health and well-being. That care will translate to other aspects of your life.
These virtues should help you not only get more benefits from your practice and help you improve posture, but also deepen your connection to your own body. A good posture exercise system will focus on these and similar virtues. Without these guiding principles, you may give up too soon or injure yourself. May they guide you to a new, radiant posture and excellent health.

Exercises for Back: Keeping Your Back In Shape
September 22nd, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedThe spine is a marvelous feat of natural engineering. Evolving over thousands of years, its double arched structure efficiently supports and connects our body’s muscles and bones. Even so, poor posture is quite common.
Perhaps the biggest reason for this is that so many people fail to realize just how simple and straightforward it is to improve posture, and that it can be acquired simply by practicing a few easy exercises. Basically, good posture allows the spine to do its job as effectively as possible so that the entire body can benefit from it. Essentially, one can master good posture by observing four basic principles and if done correctly, back pain will be a thing of the past.
Strength is a muscles ability to hold and withstand tension so that one can undertake various tasks. This includes being able to walk, run, and also to lift objects. You should also bear in mind however that there are other tasks we perform daily which while they may not seem to be very demanding, they still require muscle strength. These include activities such as sitting upright for long periods of time, where the spinal muscles will be required to work for many hours so that the vertebrae can support the body.
While strength measures muscle capability, flexibility measures a muscles length when fully stretched. The longer your muscles are, the more flexible they will be, and in most cases the flexibility determines much of what your body can or cannot accomplish without experiencing discomfort. On the other hand, if muscles are too short as a result of insufficient flexibility then they tend to remain tense unnecessary, and because strength equates to tension, the muscles are working hard so that you can perform even the simplest of tasks when in fact they need not be working so hard at all. This type of scenario inevitably leads to a person becoming tired and experiencing pain and discomfort.
Relaxation is the ability to let go of tension from a muscle. In essence, strength is the ability to contract a muscle while flexibility is its ability to elongate. Relaxation represents a balance, a point at which the muscle is neither tense nor extended. Relaxation is key to endurance and good posture. By relaxing, our body automatically assumes a natural and efficient posture, one often blocked by inflexibility and unnecessary tension.
The last of the four principles is body awareness, and this is essentially the ability to be aware of the various motions your body is going through. This helps you to determine when you’re using strength unnecessary, and when your muscles of being stretched for no reason. However, body awareness is a sense which needs to be developed over time so that you’ll be able to establish whether or not your spine is in proper alignment. In order to practice good posture, you’ll need a high level of flexibility and practically no unnecessary tension. By increasing body awareness you can then discover which areas need to be worked on.
Providing you do some posture exercises, all the skills mentioned in this article can be improved with no more than ten minutes of your time each day. You will however have to hone them all successfully in order to see results, bearing in mind that they all go hand in hand. As such, if you end up neglecting one of them, you’ll either reach a point when no further progress is possible, or you’ll simply end up back at square one.
Exercises for back health are both an excellent means of lessening or eliminating back pain, as well as a skill that will improve the quality of your entire life. With very little effort you can enjoy vast improvements to your health, stamina, daily aches and pains and appearance. If you’re searching for tangible improvement quickly, posture exercises may be just the ticket.

Picking the Best Collagen Treatments for You
September 22nd, 2009    Subscribe To Our Feedcosmetic skin care + making - Lots of makeup and cosmetic products contain collagen. Collagen is the compound in your skin that makes it look full and fresh. As you age, your body stops producing collagen on its own. At about 25 years of age, the body stops producing collagen nearly entirely, which is why your skin will start to sag at least a little by the time you are in your early thirties.
In an effort to prevent this sagging and the resulting hollow look, cosmetics manufacturers produce a large number of products that contain collagen and components that are intended to instigate collagen production. However, there are certain factors that impact how effective – if at all – any topical collagen treatment will be. Know what to look for so that you can get the best effects out of your collagen treatments.
Here are some important things to know about collagen treatments that will help you select the best one for you:
* Collagen comes in many “sizes” - When you inject collagen into your body, it does not matter what “size” the collagen particles are. However, if you want your skin to absorb collagen topically then you need small collagen particles. Look for products that actually indicate that the collagen in them is sized for easy absorption.
* Check the other ingredients - Anti-oxidants and a variety of protein complexes (mostly proprietary) can be used to help collagen penetrate the skin more effectively. While you may not be able to pinpoint an exact ingredient that will help this occur, a product will generally say if it contains any of these complexes for easier absorption and the manufacturer’s website should show clinical trials’ results in order to verify the efficacy of their patented complexes.
* Collagen stimulation and Collagen treatments are not the same - Some collagen treatments are actually intended to jumpstart your body’s own collagen production rather than increasing your current supply. These lotions can be effective and are a more natural alternative than collagen treatments, but they do not act as quickly and are not the same thing as collagen treatments at all.
* Keep an eye out for retinol - Retinol or retin-A comes from vitamin A and is a proven anti-aging factor. However, some people react very poorly… to read the rest of this article, access
