There is a balance between industries and common every day folk across all walks and aspects of life. There is no doubt about it, big corporations have become very powerful. They have developed influence in the political arena as part of their power structures.
Therefore, you have an industry that manufactures drugs. Maybe, as rumour has it, they have wrapped their arms around a certain government regulatory agency. Who knows? With this power, they can spend money on research and get ‘approved’ by this regulatory agency. Then they can market their prescription medications for outrageous prices.
Yet, the natural remedies that currently exist, such as herbal remedies for diabetes, have no such champion with big purse strings. In fact, many of the big prescription drug medications are nothing more than concentrated, synthetic and slightly different copies of compounds that naturally exist in nature.
So, therefore, regular remedies, like herbal remedies for anxiety, that grow in the forest, desert or perhaps even in one’s backyard can’t get the stamp of approval from this unnamed government agency, as a substance that is proven to have a positive effect on health.
It’s rather funny when you think about it. But then, nature was there before any government and nature will be there after. Interesting isn’t it? Nature doesn’t seem to require government approval.
But we spoke of a balance a few moments ago. The power definitely seems to rest on one side of the equation. But what is happening on the other side? Alternative healers, old books, and folk wisdom passed down through the ages are still out there and from them, many people learn to apply natural healing methods (that don’t have that big stamp of approval from an authoritarian agency) to solve their health problems. Because the costs of getting ‘official’ treatment and officially approved prescription meds now make the cost of getting said treatment beyond the reach of many.
In other cases, some people just know about simple things that work and they seem to work better, cost less and cause less trauma to the human body when implemented than the results derived from going through ‘official’ channels. Causes of sciatica are varied, and unfortunately in many cases the cause of sciatic pain cannot be identified. It is believed that the general wear and tear of the body may result in sciatic pain, which can be relieved with some form of sciatica treatment. Sciatica is caused by injury to or compression of the sciatica nerve.
Causes of Sciatica
Sciatic nerve pain starts when the main nerve into your leg, the sciatic nerve, is irritated, pinched, or compressed in some way. This can happen for one or more of several reasons; the following are the main causes of sciatica:
Isthmic Spondylolisthesis - A stress fracture in the fifth lumbar vertebra, known as L5 can cause disc movement and hence sciatic symptoms.

Degenerative Disc Disease - The discs in your spine age just as you do, and are subject to wear and tear. This is just another way of saying that your discs are aging and one of them has given way, hence pinching, irritating or putting pressure on your sciatic nerve.
Lumbar spinal stenosis - Different roots of your sciatic nerve pass through passageways in your spine. One of these passageways may become smaller, which results in pinching, irritation or putting pressure on the nerve.
Lumbar herniated disc - The discs in your spine are like shock absorbers, which allows your back to bend and move. The effects of ageing can weaken or damage these discs which may result in a disc bulging out or even splitting, pinching or putting pressure on the sciatic nerve. This is one of the most common causes of sciatica pain.
Trauma - Accidents that causes sudden compression of the sciatic nerve can produce great pain, for example, breaking a bone that results in pressure on the nerve.
Tumors - This may result in irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve and produce sciatica.
Pregnancy - Due to carrying a baby, extra strain is placed on the spine, which can cause sciatic pain.

Most cases of back pain stem from muscle strain - and if you’re suffering from back pain, you are experiencing strain or muscle tension somewhere in your body more likely than not. In the West, we think of relaxation as an absence of motion - which is not how relaxation is done everywhere in the world. In fact, as far as back pain is concerned, this can do far more harm than good.
Stress is often responsible for back pain and managing stress effectively can provide relief for this pain as well as the strain and tension which can cause. Tai chi happens to be a very good stress management technique; it works a little differently than the ways of healing back pain which you might have come to mind. It focuses on alleviating pain by working through the pain together with your body. It’s a much more effective method than just hoping that it will go away.
Trying to ignore pain and assuming it’ll disappear is only a temporary fix. You can take your mind off of the pain for a while, but unless you do something to address the root cause, the pain will only come back, often worse than before.
Tai chi tells us that when you listen to your body, you can start to understand the cause and learn how to relieve it. The slow, smooth motions and breathing techniques which are used in tai chi are very effective in relieving back pain and promoting relaxation. It’s effective enough that it’s been used for centuries by millions of people and continues to be immensely popular to this day.
Healing back pain just can’t be done by trying to pretend it doesn’t exist. You’re better off using tai chi and other stretching and relaxation techniques. This is something which should be continued even after your pain improves, since regular relaxation and stretching can keep your back pain from returning.
Take five minutes out of your day and work on listening to your pain and getting to understand it better. You can learn a lot from a little pain. He results will be dramatic and you will not only feel better, but really be better for a long time to come. You will also learn how to improve posture.
There are many books on this subject available as well as websites which provide information. It’s well worth your time to read some of these resources and make a habit of practicing these exercises. If it’s working for you, keep it up; you don’t have to devote a lot of time to your exercises. Even a few minutes per day can help you to begin healing back pain and to keep it away for a lifetime.
